How to fix a posterior unilateral crossbite?
In a normal bite, the upper teeth sit a little outside the lower teeth at the front and back and on both sides of the mouth. If a few top teeth are growing slightly behind their lower teeth, we call this a crossbite. There are two main types: 1. Anterior crossbite when front upper teeth are sitting behind their lower ones. 2. Posterior crossbite when the back upper teeth are sitting inside the lower teeth. This crossbite may be on both sides (bilateral) or only one side (unil

Orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth.
Impacted teeth means that teeth either has not erupted when expected or cannot erupt because of lack of room, wrong direction or position. Wisdom teeth are most often impacted. The second most common teeth to be impacted are the maxillary canines (upper eyeteeth). If it's not wisdom tooth, orthodontic treatment normally is the treatment option for younger patients. Our case showed orthodontic treatment of impacted teeth. In this case, there were two impacted teeth - one

Myofunctional Therapy
Myofunctional therapy is a muscle training system that can help with problems related to disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. It can be used to address the poor oral habits too. Myofunctional therapy is simple and non-evasive. It can be used as a part of early intervention orthodontic treatment . However there are many studies showing that the effect of myofunctional therapy is questionable. Case selections is very important, like this case with Cl

Stop the thumb or finger sucking habit.
Sucking on fingers or thumbs is healthy and normal in infants. Babies and toddlers stop sucking their thumb by themselves and most children stop somewhere between two and four years of age. However, if thumb or finger sucking habit continues past this age it can alter the normal growth of the jaws and cause significant misalignment of the front adult teeth as they erupt into the mouth, which will require orthodontic treatment. This teenage boy had a long history of thumb suc

Surgical exposure of two impacted teeth.
An impacted tooth is one that fails to erupt or erupts only partially. After third molars (wisdom teeth), canines (eye teeth) are the most commonly impacted teeth. Upper canine teeth are some of the last to come through and therefore have more potential to become impacted and fail to reach their correct position within the upper jaw. The incidence of maxillary canine impaction has been estimated at 2%. The causes for retarded eruption of teeth may be generalized or localized

Fix the crooked teeth.

While some of these factors are beyond our control and braces or other types of orthodontic treatment may be necessary to fix crooked teeth. Orthodontics with braces has been used for decades to straighten teet

Braces to fix unilateral crossbite with functional shift.
Unilateral posterior crossbite with functional shift of the mandible is a common condition. Early correction by expanding upper jaw is the best because it affects how the jaws develop, which may end up with facial asymmetry. A unilateral posterior crossbite with facial asymmetry is difficult to correct with orthodontic treatment alone and orthognathic surgery may be necessary. Unfortunately our patient in this case is an adult with asymmetric facial appearance. Jaw surgery
