Dentures are the cheapest option to replace missing teeth compared to dental bridges and dental implants. There are three main types of dentures: full dentures, partial dentures and implant supported dentures.
Partial dentures can be made as either a temporary or permanent solution to replace missing teeth. For example, a partial denture can be used to temporarily hold the space while waiting to get a dental implant.
Partial dentures are made from plastic (acrylic) or metal (chrome-cobalt). Metal does have a few advantages over plastic mainly being sturdier and longer lasting than plastic.
Benefits of metal dentures
Longer lasting.
Feel more comfortable and natural.
Provides extra strength.
In this case, the patient had worn the acrylic denture for a while but affected his speech a lot because of the thick and bulky plastics. While he couldn't afford dental implants, a new metal denture was the best option. It doesn’t have to cover as much of the roof of the mouth than plastic does. This thinner and smaller metal denture is much more comfortable and doesn't affect his speech.
