Premature exfoliation or extraction of baby tooth can lead to space loss when adjacent tooth moves forwards. As a result of space loss, the adult tooth growing underneath may remain impacted, or it may come through side way. In such circumstances, a space regainer is required.
This case shows a story of loose space - regain space - maintain space. Bad tooth decay caused the premature loss of two second baby molars. Then the first adult molars moved forwards and closed half of the space on the right hand side and almost all the space on the left hand side. Two space regainers were inserted and spaces were regained in 2 months. At the end of this orthodontic treatment, two space maintainers were cemented to keep the spaces until the adult teeth come through.
