Medicare CDBS

Last year, the Government announced that Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) would be retained after Australian Dental Association's (ADA)'s campaign. But the cap had been reduced to $700 per child, which meant 1 in 4 children with this scheme might not have all their treatment needs met.

Today, however, following an urgent discussion yesterday between ADA President Hugo Sachs and the Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt, the Government has advised that it will be restoring the cap back to its original figure of $1000.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides eligible children with up to $1000 over a two calendar year period on a range of dental services including examinations, routine cleaning, fillings, and root canals. We bulk bill all these services. What the CDBS doesn’t cover, however, are orthodontic (the straightening of crooked teeth), cosmetic dental procedures (the restoration or replacement of damaged or missing teeth), or any work that might need to be done in a hospital. If you aren’t sure what’s covered, just ask our dentist.

To discover more about this beneficial program, and whether your child is eligible, call Medicare on 132 011 or visit the Department of Human Services website.
